The tale of the tape

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I reset the trip odometer when we gassed up in Yelm, WA. What you don’t see is the 2 times it rolled over. A total of 2,724.7 miles ridden since the 5th

Home at last

Friday, August 13th, 2010

We all finally made it home ok. I am amazed that none of the bikes broke down. I was waiting for that to happen but other than minor issues like exhaust pipes falling off (twice), a burned out headlight, and bad gas, we had no problems at all. Even my bad front wheel bearing held on long enough for me to get home. It was fun, but I’ll do a wrap up post later this weekend and tell it all (or almost all) as I saw it.

Right now though, leftover pizza and History channel never looked so good. The bath in the jet tub was good too.

The final tank

I’m in Rhome, Texas filling up. I’m about 30 miles from Ft Worth.

The break up

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Well we made it to Vernon in Texas. Filled up and had $18 left on our gas budget. We split up the remainders of the budgets and are heading our separate ways. Its been fun but for the next 3 hours or so I’m on my own.

Gas stop

Getting gas in Elk City, Oklahoma.

Prep work

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Packing up the bikes. We already ate breakfast and we aren’t going to top off this morning so we are almost ready to go.

Ready for the final day

Friday, August 13th, 2010

We are ready for the last day of riding. And it looks like another hot one. It’s supposed to be over 100 degrees thru the entire ride.
Yesterday as we were heading out my headlight went out. The high beam still worked so I ran with that on all day yesterday. Last night Larry and I changed out the bulb and it works fine now.
We will be parting ways in Vernon, Texas about noon. We are going to have lunch together and then dad and Larry are heading down 183 and I’m going down 287 all the way home.

The Final night

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

We made it to the hotel in Woodward, Oklahoma. It’s actually the earliest we have finished the day since we have been on this trip. And it was one of the toughest days due to the heat and lack of scenery. I think I’m going to the pool tonight.

I dont think we are in Kansas anymore Toto

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

We made it to Oklahoma. Fueling up in Buffalo about 50 miles left for today. Dad said the best thing about Oklahoma is that it’s next to Texas. I have to agree.

Early lunch today

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Stopped in Ness, Kansas for gas and lunch. We stopped about 25 miles short of where we actually had planned but it’s REALLY hot and we were sore too so 100 miles in a stretch is enough. We think we will stop for a bit every 50 miles or so for the rest of the day.
